Alcohol may have been a key factor for a trio that ended up in a ravine in a remote area south of Grande Prairie Thursday.
A 43-year-old male driver along with a 33-year-old male and 38-year-old female passengers were involved in the single-vehicle mishap at approximately 2:30 a.m. July 23.
They were on Township Road 704A, about one kilometre south of Highway 40.
"They drove over the corner (of the bridge) ... and went into the ravine," said Cpl. Carol McKinley of the Grande Prairie RCMP.
All three individuals were taken to the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie as a result of the incident. The injuries were not life threatening, and McKinley noted two of them appeared to have minor injuries, as police took statements from the people at the scene.
Police believe alcohol was involved.
McKinley noted this trio really had no reason to be in that area – near the Wapiti Nordic Trails – at that hour.
"It's a remote area in consideration of the time that this event occurred," she said.
"Typically the activity there is either – in the wintertime – skiing, or used by mountain bikers and runners and walkers in the summer ... I don't know why they were out there – the activity generators out there are typically sport-related."
McKinley said police are investigating the incident further.
